Creative Portrait Series

My first born, despite her brown-haired parents, came into this world with red hair. From that point on, I've thoroughly enjoyed the uniqueness of our little red-haired child. As I've grown as a photographer, it's always been in the back of my mind when brainstorming to photograph a series of redheads. Time and energies came together perfectly this month to make the shoot finally come to life.

We shot this session in a local photo studio located in Centennial, Colorado. The studio is one of my favorites for it's great natural light. I kept the set and wardrobe for this shoot minimalist and soft. Soft whites, creams, and warm tones allowed their lovely hair, skin, freckles, and eyes to stand out. From child to adult, it was a joy to highlight these unique features. Special thanks to Courtney, Tia, Sloane, Kelsey, and my daughter Addison for modeling for this session.

Red hair comes from a gene mutation on the MC1R gene. Red-haired humans make up

just 2% of the world's population. There are examples of red hair across areas of Polynesia, Africa,

China, Scandinavia, and most famously, in Scotland and Ireland.
